BRHS boys win first meet at Camden

    The Boothbay Region High School track and field teams traveled to Camden Hills on April 28 to compete in their second meet of the season. BRHS boys won the boys competition and the Lady Seahawks placed fourth. Coach Nick Scott said it was the first time BRHS has won this “big school” event.

    The Boothbay boys had an extraordinarily good afternoon, with 11 individuals scoring double digits and several qualifying for the state and MVC championship meets. Leading the male scorers was senior Abel Bryer with 36 points. Bryer won the javelin and shot put events and placed second in the discus. Draco Peaslee won both the 100m and 200m dash, racking up 28 points for BRHS, and Matt Burnham, who won the 400m dash, scored 26 points. Shane Johnson and Morgen Wilson both scored 22 points, Johnson won the discus, placed second in the 300m hurdles and javelin, and third in shot put. Wilson won the 1600m racewalk and placed 4th in the 300m hurdles. Bryer, Burnham, Wilson and Peaslee also ran individual legs in the relay races.

    Other big scorers for the boys were Brandon Andrews (18 points), Connor Demmons and Blake Erhard, (both 14 points), Stevie Reny, (16 points), Liam Conlin (12 points) and Jay Hasch (10 points). BRHS won the meet with 185.5 points, followed by Camden Hills, 132, Lincoln Academy, 107, Erskine Academy,  104, Oceanside, 25.5, and North Haven, 2.

    Angie Perkins led the Lady Seahawks in scoring with 24 points. Perkins placed second in the 400m, third in the high jump and fourth in the 200m. Hannah Morley, who won the 3200m event, scored 16 points and Samantha Carter, who won the 1600m racewalk and placed fourth in javelin, scored 14 points. Morley and Perkins also ran in the 4x800m relay race. Lincoln Academy won the meet with 187 points, followed by Camden, 154, Erskine, 90, BRHS, 70, Oceanside, 25, Isleboro, 14, and North Haven, 10.

    The Seahawks will compete in two meets this week. They head to Hall-Dale on May 3 for a large Mountain Valley Conference meet and then to Wiscasset on Thursday, May 5.
