The Boothbay Region Elementary School Wildcats cheerleading team finished third out of five teams and was awarded the spirit award at the 2017-2018 Busline League championship held Feb. 9 at Medomak Middle School.

“I am very proud of them,” said coach Lisa Tilton. “None of these girls had ever cheered before. They had an amazing year.”

Competing against larger squads, the BRES team is comprised of only six members: Teal Beavis, Meghan Leeman, Hannah Roberts, Della Hahn, Katerina Nein and  Madelyn Teele. The largest team, Medomak, has 22 cheerleaders.

Tilton said receiving the spirit award was special as it is voted on by all the coaches and cheerleaders.

The teams’ routines were judged in two rounds of competition to get a final average. Medomak finished first with a 71.25 score, followed by Jefferson, 56.08; BRES, 50.7; Bristol, 48.1; and Great Salt Bay, 46. The win by Medomak was its eighth straight championship.
