From bowling alley to ... bus station?

Dear Editor:

In the Feb. 16, 2017 edition of the Boothbay Register you featured a plan of Knickerbocker Group’s plan for the Romar Bowling alley site (a site that looks very “Northern Exposure” if you remember the TV show).

What in heaven’s name are you guys thinking with that design? This is Boothbay Harbor, not Sedona, Arizona, or New Mexico. Yikes! Get a grip! At best the design looks like a southwestern bus station. Our recently built golf club also reflects Arizona rather than Boothbay Harbor - a coastal town on the Atlantic ocean.

There has to be a more appropriate plan in mind. I sincerely hope that the designer of the current proposed building comes to our town to observe what is here already. It is a great mixture of 19th century houses and commercial space that reflects New England’s past and present.

The present proposed design could also be mistaken for a subway entrance. Enough already!
