Lou Landry is generous and talented.

For the fourth straight year, Landry has donated one of finely crafted wooden bowls to the Boothbay Charities Classic (BCC) auction for the benefit of Special Olympics Maine (SOME).

BCC co-chairman Brenda Blackman picked up the bowl from Landry at his East Boothbay shop, Ocean Point Woodturning, on Friday, Sept. 12. She said that an $800 bid has already been made on the one of a kind bowl by an auction participant who has already received a bowl at a previous BCC auction.

Landry said this year’s bowl comprises 1,380 pieces of walnut and sycamore wood. He said it took about a week to construct.

“I’m always pleased to help the Special Olympics,” said Landry. “I am hoping the bowl prompts a bidding showdown so Special Olympics can benefit.”

The bowl will be on display and up for bidding at the BCC auction on Friday, Sept. 26 at the Boothbay Railway Village. The live auction begins at 6 p.m. and there is a silent auction from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“Expect a bidding showdown,” said Blackman. “It is a beautiful piece of work and we will be taking bids over the phone during the auction.”
