Boothbay's candidates of the future

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 5:00pm

The candidate papers are in, and come May 5, there could be new leadership on Boothbay's standing boards and committees.

Here are this year's candidates running for office.

    Boothbay Selectmen

Four candidates will be vying for two chairs on the Boothbay Board of Selectmen. Kenneth Chances and Michael Pander will be running against incumbents Douglas Burnham and Steve Ham. Burnham and Ham have served multiple 3-year terms as Boothbay selectmen. Pander has served previously on the planning board, and Chances is going for his first run as an elected official for Boothbay.

Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District Board of Trustees

Incumbent Tyler Hodgdon is running again to be a trustee for the community school district. But challenging him for that chair is Jennifer Greenleaf. For the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor School Committee, Brian Blethen will be running unopposed.

    Water District

In an unusual turn of events, Mark Carter, the only trustee who was up for reelection, did not turn in his papers, allowing Chris Higgins, the manager of the Boothbay Region Sewer District, to submit his application for the seat. Higgins is running unopposed.

    Cemetery District

Lorraine Hodgdon is running again for the Cemetery District. She is an incumbent and is running unopposed for another 3-year term.

May 5 is election day and polls will be open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office at 1011 Wiscasset Road in Boothbay. The election will be followed by the annual town meeting at the Boothbay Town Hall at the Railway Village starting 7:30 p.m. at 586 Wiscasset Road.
