Boothbay wins in OT, 60-58, at Hall-Dale

Senior co-captain Evan Hepburn banked home the game winner with two seconds left in overtime to give the Seahawks a very gritty 60-58 road win at Hall-Dale on Friday night. Hepburn had given the Seahawks a one-point lead with 1:13 left in overtime after tying the score in the last minute of regulation.

Despite several opportunities for Hall-Dale, the Seahawks’ lead remained at one until the host Bulldogs Brian Allen hit the second of two with nine seconds remaining in overtime. After the Hepburn hoop, Hall-Dale threw a long down court pass that was intercepted by Abel Bryer at free safety.

The Seahawks had to overcome a six-point deficit with just over a minute left in regulation to even get to overtime after entering the game already down two key players as Aaron Dickinson was out sick and Joseph DiMauro injured. Nick Gorey also got injured in the first half further diminishing the depth.

John Hepburn scored on an offensive rebound to cut the lead to four before Julian Aponte drove through the lane with 55 seconds left. Poor decisions by Hall-Dale, combined with intense Boothbay defensive pressure, gave the Seahawks the opportunity to stay alive as Evan Hepburn tied the score with 32 seconds left.

Now 5-0, the Seahawks have pulled one out of the fire on consecutive Friday nights as it took a similar comeback a week ago against Madison.

Evan Hepburn led the Seahawks with 17 points, followed by Abel Bryer with 12 and John Hepburn with 10.
