Boothbay takes down Mountain Valley

Mon, 01/15/2018 - 5:15pm

A stingy defense and good ball movement and selection of shots helped the Boothbay Region Seahawks with a 55-26 win at home over the Mountain Valley Falcons Monday afternoon. The top-ranked Seahawks improved to 11-0 with the win over the Class B Falcons, who dropped to 8-3.

Mountain Valley stayed close after one quarter, trailing by only seven, 17-10, and drew to within five early in the second quarter, but Boothbay went on to outscore the Falcons, 10-3 the rest of the quarter to lead 27-15 at halftime. Boothbay held Mountain Valley to only four points in the third quarter and led 40-19 going into the final frame.

The Falcon offense featured a weave out front with the guards trying to penetrate when they saw an opening. But Boothbay’s height advantage still didn’t allow Mountain Valley good looks near the basket.

Junior tri-captain Faith Blethen led all scorers with 24 points. Senior tri-captain Page Brown added 14 points. Freshman Glory Blethen and sophomore Chloe Arsenault each had six points.

Falcon freshman Rylee Sevigny was her team’s leading scorer with 10, followed by junior Courtney Carrier with seven points.

Boothbay will play at Oak Hill Wednesday, weather permitting, and will host Spruce Mountain on Friday.
