Boothbay Special Olympians compete at state swim meet

    Over 400 Special Olympians arrived at Bates College on Thursday, April 16 to participate in the state swim meet. Included in that group were 21 athletes from Boothbay, who brought home a total of 48 medals and ribbons.

    They included 14 golds, 13 silvers, three bronzes, 10 fourth places, two fifth places, four sixth places, and two sevenths.

    Athletes from Boothbay included Ronda LeConte, Brenda LeConte, Matt Farnham, Donny Dunning, Peter Brewster, Joey Ranco, Valerie Giles, Vincent Giles, Thomas Wilcox, John “Piper's Son” Rankin, Adam Jackimovicz, Matthew Hyson, Chloe Desjardins, Deshawn “The Beast" Averill, Blake Chadwick, Amber Hyson, Logan Posey, Grace Giles, Danny Miller, Anthony Angelico and Royce “Navy Seal Dippers" Rogers.

    Accompanying them was Toby LeConte, the team’s long-time coach who works in the Composite Room at Boothbay Region Elementary School.

    “I couldn't have been happier about how it went,” LeConte said. “The relay teams blew everyone out of the water and I am very proud of them.”
