Boothbay’s 47th Fall Foliage Festival brings big crowds

Hundreds came out to the Boothbay Railway Village on Oct. 11 and 12 for the 47th annual Fall Foliage Festival.

Dozens of crafters and vendor tents were set up on the field, selling everything from fresh-popped kettle corn to to stone pottery and hand-mixed spices.

A special kids’ tent was set up with activities for the younger crowd, such as bobbing for donuts (the donuts hang from strings and you eat it without using your hands) and pumpkin painting.

Train rides left the station on a regular basis, and visitors enjoyed exploring the railway's many exhibits.

In the town hall, a special display by Kwiltz 4 Kidz was set up with many beautiful quilts and table runners for sale.

Musical acts included the Murky Water Band, Tyler Richards, Noel Arrington and Gabe Tonon, the Oyster Creek Fiddlers, the Boothbay Region Community Band, The Holy Mackerels and The Spaceheaters.

Assistant Director Margaret Hoffman was stationed near the railways tracks helping to direct traffic and parking.

“It seems busier this year than it's been before,” Hoffman said while directing a van to an open spot.

“And festival organizer Rene Evans has done an outstanding job getting all the vendors here and having everything set up.”

The last regular train left the station at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The Railway Village is now preparing for the Ghost Train and North Pole Express events for the Halloween and Christmas seasons.
