The Boothbay Region Y is heading full stream into their summer season, with a large selection of new classes and many returning favorites as well.

“We are excited to spread the word about new and continuing classes,” said Abby Jones, Healthy Living Coordinator at the Y.

Summer classes will take place through Aug. 29. They include Total Body Challenge, low-impact aerobics, Pilates yoga and stretch, core and more, zumba, indoor cycling (spinning), easy rider spinning, Boothbay boot camp, senior sit and stretch, seniors in motion, pickleball, TRX, cross-training and yoga.

Several of the new classes include zumba, taught by local instructors Brigitte Schlosser on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. A second class takes place Tuesdays and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. taught by summer instructor Kathleen Perry, who visits the Boothbay region in the summer to sing at Carousel Music Theater.

Cross-training classes will take place between 5 and 6 p.m. on Wednesdays (taught by Nikki Tibbetts, a personal trainer at the Y) and Thursdays (taught by Abby Jones). There is also an early morning class on Tuesdays at 6:30 a.m., taught by incoming Boothbay Region High School senior Camden Spear.

“Cross-training can be really intense,” Jones said. “But Camden is really good at giving modifications, less intense versions of a move, for people who need them.”

For classes such as zumba, tai chi, and cycling, the first class is always free. While cycling is often seen as high intensity, Jones explains that it very self-guided.

“You set your own resistance level,” Jones said. “I love having new people try the class out and I make sure to show them how to use the bike properly and set it up before class starts so they feel comfortable. I encourage everyone, whether you are a member or a drop-in guest, to give it a try.”

A complete schedule for these and many more classes can be found at the Y or online at www.boothbayregionymca.org. Most classes are free to members and available to non-members who purchase a day pass ($10 for adults, $8 for seniors).

The Boothbay Region Y offers annual memberships paid on a monthly basis. They also offer income-based rates, for families making up to $44,000 a year (rates adjust up and down according to income). Financial assistance is also available for families in need.

For summer visitors to the region, the Y offers Cottage Memberships along with short-term monthly memberships from April through October. A cottage membership allow up to six people staying at a cottage, whether family members or even temporary renters, to use the Y facilities. A three-month cottage membership is $450 and a six-month is $600.

Short-term memberships vary in cost, with seniors paying $110 per month while adults pay $160 and families $255. See the Y front desk for more information and rates.
