Boothbay Region Lions Club

Mon, 04/16/2018 - 7:30pm

Twenty-four members were out with the peepers to our regular meeting April 11. The kitchen crew prepared pulled pork sandwiches, red cabbage salad, beans, barbecue sauce, with brownies and ice cream to top the meal off. Our members take turns heading up the kitchen crew while other members chip in with appetizers.

Plans are underway for a variety of activities. A spring roadside clean up will happen on April 28. Members will once again walk in the Windjammer parade. The Manchester Lions Club will share their eye machine with us again to screen children at the annual Set For Success event in August. And, for the first time, our club will join in on Volunteer Day at the Boothbay Railway Village on May 2. Busy? Yes we are.

In September there will be another turkey dinner to benefit the Community Center. Bingo is still on the list, as well as our summer raffle. We received two requests for eyeglasses this meeting.

Donations will be going out to LifeFlight of Maine, the Donor Book program at BRHS and the Y camp to support a service members child.

Tail Twister Tom Nickerson doubled as parking enforcement at the appetizer table. Twin members Dwight and Duane Lewis recently celebrated a birthday by hitting a gong – that’s a fine. Other fines were levied including one to the Tail Twister himself.

Our annual election of officers took place: King Lion, Ken Fitch; 1st VP, Karen Nickerson, 2nd VP, Terry Heller; Secretary, Karen Nickerson; Treasurer, John Perreault; Tail Twister, Tom Nickerson; Lion Tamer, Norman Irish; Eyeglass Chair, Wendy Greenleaf; membership Chair, Mary Tilton; two-year Directors: Omar and Connie Reed, Paul and Wendy Greenleaf, Harry Pinkham and Glenn Tilton. Congrats and thank you to those willing to serve!

If you’d like to help support our non-profit club, please mail your donation to Boothbay Region Lions, P.O. Box 598, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Our club would welcome anyone wanting to join – just ask!

Our next meeting is April 25 and Stephanie Hawke will be our guest speaker. Social time starts at 6 – come join us!
