Boothbay Region Lions Club: Fishermen’s Festival breakfast

Tue, 02/10/2015 - 11:30pm

The Blizzard of 2015 didn’t stop the Lions from holding the Jan. 28 meeting.

The meeting room was decorated in the Super Bowl theme by Lions Tom and Karen to help promote the current building fund fundraiser “Super Bowl Pool.” Most members took their usual seats not caring if their napkin was “Patriots” or “Seattle Seahawks” although a couple hesitated — all in good fun!

By the end of the night three boards were filled! Thank you to everyone who participated. With many more fundraisers on the way we are sure to “inflate” the building fund once again.

Kudos to the kitchen crew, Lions Wendy, Paul and Mark along with Lion Susie’s help in serving up a delicious meal of beef stew, salad, rolls and desert. Kudos also to Lion Gary for plowing and shoveling us out and to Lion Glenn for also manning the shovel. Where will we put the next storm's snow?

Twenty-three members attended along with six members of the Manchester Lions Club. Second Vice District Governor Michelle Crocker and her crew mingled in with our Lions for a night of Lions fellowship and humor. It’s always good to have Lions from other clubs visit. We hope to join them one night soon and retrieve our bell.

King Lion Glenn called on Lion Tom N. to explain to members his fundraising ideas. As usual, Lion Tom has done his homework and goes to the top of the class for this one. Our building fund is depleted and needs funds desperately — please stay tuned for future fundraisers. Also — it’s not too early to mark your calendars for Fishermen’s Festival Breakfast at the Lions Clubhouse, April 25.

Our new sign is a beauty! Thank you Jeff Brown Signs for doing a fantastic job!

Waldoboro will be hosting a Zone meeting April 1. If you were not at the meeting but would like to join us in attending please let Lion Glenn know ASAP.

Our Lonnie Sisson mural was discussed again. If at all possible the club wishes to restore the mural that has become such a part of the clubhouse. Haven’t seen the mural? Come visit us at one of our fundraisers and see why we’re so proud of it.

Our next meeting will be a Valentine's dinner. Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by Feb. 6 to Lion Karen if you will be attending so the kitchen crew can plan accordingly.

The 50/50 raffle went to a member of the Manchester Lions Club and the Cheer raffle to Lion Wally. Tail Twister Mike levied fines to Lion Brian of the Manchester club for talking on his cell phone; to Lion Alan for squealing on why Lion Harry wasn’t in attendance; Lions Wally and Lynn were fined for standing around the appetizer table so others couldn’t get close; Lion Susie for saying she was the Tail Twisters better half; Lion Lynn for dumping the salad; and Lion Paul for spilled milk. Our Tail Twister felt generous and waived his fine to Lion Michelle for also talking on her cell phone.

Like us on Facebook and keep abreast of what’s happening! Or, better yet, ask a Lion how to join and become an active member. See you at our next meeting Feb. 11.
