Boothbay Region Historical Society announces events from May through December

The Society’s annual meeting will be held May 17 at 4:30 p.m.
Fri, 04/29/2016 - 8:00am

Members and guests of the Boothbay Region Historical Society will gather in its 72 Oak Street museum to attend the society’s 49th annual meeting, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. of May 17. Following a brief business meeting, local historian Barbara Rumsey will give a talk about her 30-year pursuit of the region’s local history.

The business portion of the annual meeting will include a review of society activities over the past year and election of trustees and officers. The slate to be presented by the nominating committee recommends new terms for trustees Susan Leach, Jan Reit, Ann Sutter and Kathy Tibbetts, whose present terms are expiring. In addition, Sally Barter and Bill Hammond will be nominated for a two-year and a three-year term as board members, respectively. The committee also will recommend election of these officers: Jan Reit, president; Kathy Tibbetts, vice president; Sarah Giles, treasurer; and Judy Eastwood, secretary. Prior to a vote by members, an opportunity will be given for nominations from the floor.

Barbara Rumsey’s talk at the annual meeting will focus on the multiple roles in the historical society that she has undertaken over the years, the people who have helped and those who continue to do so, and the steps required to acquire, preserve, and make the region’s local history available to researchers and the general public.

The annual meeting is the first of nine events planned by society trustees between May and December. This meeting and all speaker programs will begin at 4:30 p.m. Following a recent change in policy, reservations will no longer be accepted for our programs. Seating, limited to the main room of the museum, will be available on a first come first served basis. The doors will open at 4:10 p.m. All society events are free and open to the public.
