Boothbay Region Health Center receives $100K matching grant

Fri, 06/19/2015 - 4:00pm

Boothbay Region Health Care has received a large grant to help establish a new community health center. The gift is from a seasonal Boothbay resident who wishes to remain anonymous.

“I believe we need more health care choices on this peninsula,” the donor said. “There are people like me who return every season and want and need the kinds of personal, proactive, high-tech/high touch care that this group wants to offer to the region. I like the vision for the Boothbay Region Health Center to integrate behavioral health and mental health into primary care. I know that these services are sorely missing in this community. I love the idea of providing access to specialists via telemedicine, as well as house calls at night.

“ I think that having locals acting as health coaches to provide proactive outreach to people who need reminders to do what it takes to stay healthy is a great idea! I truly hope that others will join me in providing the start-up funding for this innovative new community-governed health center and primary care practice. I’d like to see it open its doors this year! We need more choices and more capacity for affordable and locally accessible, walk-in, extended hours, and round the clock healthcare coverage. None of us are getting any younger.”

Every dollar donated to BRHC will be matched by our anonymous donor, up to $100,000. We hope that this incentive will open up the wallets of our year-round and seasonal residents to support this new community-governed health center. With your support, we hope to be able to open for business before the end of the year. For more information about BRHC, go to: boothbayhealthcare.org or contact Jerry Homer at 207-633-5203.
