Once again we must turn our thoughts and concerns to a member who has left our midst. This time it is good friend and fellow travel agent Joana Ouest who, through much of her many years battle with cancer, found time to bring her infectious smile and enthusiastic demeanor to our clubhouse, always accompanied by her ever patient and care giving husband Harvey. Joana treated bar manager David Schoentag as her third son and, in fact, all of the BHYC staff and membership were recipients of her generous spirit. We are all with you Harvey and with Joana in spirit.

This is the last week of dinner service as next week it becomes lunch only, winding down to the decommissioning on Oct. 1. There is a big dinner Saturday night, Octoberfest, and Billy has a huge menu to serve.

The post office parking lot has been paved and the lines will be “drawn” during the course of this week. Things are happening in the construction arena ... like the groundbreaking for the Sailing Center where 64 folks gathered for the Golden Shovel ceremony — the process is underway. Fog distinguished the ceremony but did not disturb the dinner following, enjoyed by all celebrants.

The Casino has reverted to prior years use as the High School sailing people have been evicted from McKown house by construction activities and the HS sail program is still in full active mode. The “kids” raced in Portland last weekend although between the fog and lack of wind a ninth place finish was understandable. More to come in the following weekends.
