We all lived through Monday and the final paving exercise. The lot looks beautiful and will from now on be relatively free of construction vehicles, etc. Please remember that we do still have to use that area for supplies and provisions for the restaurant and the large trucks that bring those supplies are inevitable consequences of a successful dining room. Also remember that the Junior program starts next Monday, June 18  and parents will be delivering youth in the morning hours and picking them up in the late afternoon. Also be sure to remember that at numerous times every weekday the young folks who are doing tennis will be crossing Route 27 frequently and they demand our care and literal respect of highway regulations.

The first of the Member to Member events was well attended and the presenter, Maria Boord, was fascinating and highly professional. Until now Maria was best known to many of us as the mother of Gabby, a rising star in her own right in the Junior program, , and of course the partner of Jeff, but after the Tuesday event she shines in her own daylight! Thanks Maria for your presentation and please continue to share with us your talents.

The Mahjong luncheon on Wednesday, an annual event, was hosted by Sara Seepe with the assistance of Penny Matthews. It is absolutely amazing what a popular game Mahjong has become ... we have seen an annual increase in its popularity at BHYC for sure.

Today ( Thursday) is another of the BHYC Orientation events sponsored by the Membership Committee. This event is intended for new members but wannabee members are invited as well and if you have a friend interested bring them to Thursday cocktails and the orientation which starts at 1600.The flag officers and the board of directors are providing the goodies this week.

One other Thursday event is the “ON OUR OWN DINING (OOO)” table is open tonight for single diners wanting to have folks to share a meal after cocktails. As usual reservations are expected and just mention that you are reserving for OOO.

Well, dining happens on other nights besides Thursday, in fact Friday is a spectacular draw this week with Prime Rib (King or Queen) coming from the kitchen and rhythm coming from the voice of Kathi Nordone, a famous artist with a long legacy of recording and appearance credits. This will be a very special night so make your reservations early.

There is competition, however, as the Shakedown Cruise to the Damariscotta River is happening Friday as well. Contact Mike Rowan for details.

Sunday is deserving of a mention as well because we have two events this week. The first is a Father’s Day Brunch and the second is the Sunday Night supper cookout on the front deck at 1730.

Next Tuesday, the 19th, at 1730, is a very special presentation by Lee Ann and Mark Szelog entitled “ Fourteen Years at a Maine Lighthouse.” Following the presentation will be dinner and you can reserve the whole package by calling the front desk 633-5750.

Monday the book club is offering “Gentleman from Moscow” and duplicate bridge is the game of the day. Bridge lessons are on Tuesday mornings at 0930 and bridge play on Thursdays at 1300.

The High School sailing team will have their awards dinner Friday night and parents as well as Junior Program supporters are welcome to attend. There will be a special presentation by the kids as well. Did you see in last week’s Register that three of our Jr. Program Alumni were on the Honor Roll at Maine Maritime Academy. Myron Hahn also a past Jr. program instructor has graduated with honors and is now a licensed officer. He often visited BRSC races this spring to watch his sister Della follow in his footsteps. Last weekend Ella Beauregard and Hamilton Barclay raced in the Youth Challenge Regatta at Newport , Rhode Island and proudly came home with the second place trophy.

Adult races are scheduled to start this Wednesday but as of the deadline for this news the mooring field did not offer view of potential racers. Better luck at getting the races off next week.

We usually have started this column with news of the building progress but other than the paving most of the work has been in the background. Painting, carpeting, installing of communications equipment has all been proceeding apace... weather and equipment crowding has slowed the retaining wall and sod placement progress but it is all in the works for completion by the dedication event which will happen on the 24th in the late afternoon. Details will be announced in next week’s column.
