Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Regatta set for Aug. 1-2

Mon, 07/27/2015 - 3:30pm

The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club will host its 41st annual regatta, featuring sailboats entered from Maine and all down the East Coast, on Aug. 1 and 2. Advance registrations indicate that this will be the largest such regatta on the coast of Maine this summer.

Races will be under the direction of Charles Barclay, accredited Principal Race Officer and director of the Junior Program at BHYC. They will take place in the waters south and east of Spruce Point and Tumbler Island and Sunday's races may well include around-the-islands courses.

Saturday night, the racers and club members and friends will enjoy a lobster dinner and have the opportunity to listen to the well-known Peter Collins Dixieland quartet.

The event is one of the major items included in the GMORA (Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association) summer series and finishes will be entered in the season trophy totals.

The regatta’s principal sponsor is Spruce Point Inn. Other co-sponsors include: J. Edward Knight Insurance, Hodgdon Yacht Services and Hendricks Gin. General sponsors include: Knickerbocker Group, Charleston Harbor Tours, Central Distributors, Oak Street Provisions, Paul E. Luke, Inc., East Coast Yacht Sales, Annapolis Performance Sailing, White Mountain Fiberglass, GMORA and Baxter Brewing Company.
