Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club: May 28

Thu, 05/28/2015 - 4:00pm

Last Thursday night’s cocktail party was well attended and there was much to talk about. Among other things, the last of the three dolphins on our main dock system has been replaced and Pete from Blake’s tells us that the docks are secure and safe again. Winter dealt a major blow to all three units with only one remaining visible when the ice melted. Pilings under the building have also been replaced and much of the cross bracing has been replaced or repaired as well. Our clubhouse is precariously perched atop a system of X braced pilings that must stay strong and secure to prevent us from sliding into the harbor.

On Saturday, Commodore Muzzy led the board meeting which handled many items of concern relating to this summer’s operations and to the long term future of the club. The financial house is in order but not without care and astute management required throughout the summer.

On Sunday night, May 31 at 1730, the season will formally get launched with the 120th commissioning ceremony. Commodore Muzzy will give the order and with a cannon salute the Colors will be raised and facilities will be formally opened for business. Many familiar faces will be seen on the waterfront this year, including launch operators Capt. Ron and Cap. Paul, who were both with us last year as stewards.

Last Friday, Jane Roberts led a team of what seemed like thousands in the annual transformation day when ugly dirty hillsides become beautiful patches of green and multicolored flowers. Thanks to all who helped make this happen.

Last of all, but certainly the best news, is that the Dining Room will open for service on Tuesday, June 2. George and his crew are ready to roll with many new and exciting gastronomical opportunities. Included in this litany is a Sunday night buffet and speaker (Chuck Paine) on June 14 and the special pre-opening Opus 1 Wine Dinner on Friday, May 29.
