The last two boats from the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club’s Junior program are now out of the water, have been winterized, and are awaiting covering by Sally Lloyd as one of the final acts of the season. Thanks to PC Lee Krow for the use of his trailer to support the Tiger II Master chase boat. Our only mechanical problem of the season as a small amount of water in the grease on the lower unit of the 15-foot whaler — an easy gasket fix.

Speaking of Junior Program boats, we still have three of the older 420 sailboats for sale, and they can be purchased by calling manager Jim Matel. These boats are in good condition and come fully rigged with sails and proper equipment at a bargain price. Maybe one of you can envision this as a Christmas present for a grandchild.

Another gift could be a week or nine weeks of Junior Program enrollment for the 2015 season. The new brochure and rates will be on the website shortly but gift enrollments can be secured by calling Donna in the office or by contacting the guru of enrollments, Margot Atwood, by phone or email.

Another of the hardworking committees that knows no calendrical constraints is the membership committee. This year there is a new name in the co-leadership role as Chris Roberts joins Lee Rowan at the helm. This duo reports that a number of meetings have been held, and with the help of the membership enhancement committee, plans are well established and underway.

They report: “BHYC has had a wonderful 2014 season and we are looking forward to 2015 with great anticipation. The Junior Programs of sailing, golf and tennis have been very successful. Adult activities have expanded beyond the waterfront to include bridge, mahjong, art shows, fine dining, car shows, casual dining and many other activities. To non-members, please come by the club office and pick up information about all of these programs and consider joining and to members pick up all of the date necessary to apply for membership for your friends.”
