Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club: 120th anniversary coming up

Wed, 11/26/2014 - 10:30am

We heard from John Marsland’s son, Stan, who has been preparing a litany of his legendary fathers sailing experiences on the waters of the world. John was a member for many years and lived to a ripe old age.

Louise Holmes remembers his turning 100 while she was Commodore, and that was in 2007. John sailed a wooden schooner that he built himself, and it touched many ports around the world. Stan would be happy to present his paper sometime this summer if there are enough folks who remember him and are interested in hearing about his adventures.

Eric and Sandi Hakanson report a fabulous turnout for the November social event last week. A cold but beautiful night was not dampened by the morning’s snow showers and the talk was of Thanksgiving, Christmas and the summer of 2015 (which is our 120th anniversary). Commodore Muzzy came up from that state to the south to join the crowd and welcomed all. Thanks to the Hakansons for hosting the event.

News comes from the Junior Program that the 2015 season will again be 10 weeks in length, and that for the first time registrations and enrollments will be fully available online. This accommodation to the age of electronics is hard for some of us old-timers, but we are assured that the parents of our young frys and the kids themselves are totally immersed in this age and us older folks should get with it!

Shortly you should be able to go to the club website, follow the leads to Jurnior Program registration and have at it.

By the way, if any of you want to give Christmas presents to grandchildren (or children) you can call Donna in the club office and make an advance reservation. The brochure and other schedule and price data will be on the website momentarily thanks to Margot Atwood who is the guru of all gurus!
