Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club

Tue, 12/12/2017 - 11:45am

The next Rotary Club meeting on Dec. 14 will be the annual Christmas party. Everyone should bring an hors d’oeuvre or dessert to share and a gift for the Yankee Swap. It promises to be lots of fun The club already looks beautiful with Christmas decorations and lovely centerpieces created by Debbie Graves.

The Dec. 7 meeting began with the singing of “America the Beautiful,” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the invocation. We then enjoyed a delicious meal of fish chowder, green salad, biscuits and a yummy dessert of apple crisp.

Guests introduced were Tom Hagan, Trudy Seybold, and Assistant District Governor Claudia Frost. Raffle winners were Dwight Swisher and Rick Elder. Many Happy and Sad dollars were given: remembering Pearl Harbor with deep thanks for sacrifices made,

Thoughts and prayers for those in California fighting the horrendous fires, the beautiful Harbor Lights and Gardens Aglow, and in memory of Maurice Landemere who passed away the week before and was a founding member of the Woodchucks. Thanks to our Rotary Club for helping with the new loader to help the Woodchucks in their mission.

Patty Seybold presented the program, introducing the Recovery and Resilience program at the Farnham Center located in New Hampshire, which is based on the Three Principles of Health Realization. She introduced four people who had completed the program and who spoke about its life changing result. There are opportunities for anyone interested to help support the scholarships, which allow those in need to attend the month-long residential sessions. Chief of Police Bob Hasch also spoke about this excellent program and its importance in our community’s efforts to reduce addictions within our community. The stories shared were heartening and encouraging.

The meeting was adjourned at about 8 p.m.
