Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

Mon, 11/20/2017 - 8:00am

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday: none of the stress of Christmas but all of its delicious food and lots of family.

I like taking the time to reflect on all of the wonderful things I have to be thankful for. I’m so grateful for hot turkey with cranberry sauce, gravy, cornbread stuffing with sausage, sweet potatoes with marshmallows … oh, and of course family, friends, and the best job ever.

And though I love this job, I’m thankful that we’ll be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23 (Thanksgiving Day), as well as on Friday, Nov. 24 (travel/digestion day). We’re open as usual on Saturday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), so that’ll be your chance to get a book. Saturday, the 25th will also be your last chance to shop at the Friends of the Library Used Bookstore, because they’re closing for the season after that. As an additional bonus, books are half off at the Bookstore on the 24th and 25th. Black Friday deals, right here in Boothbay Harbor!

There is still room to sign up for the 3-D Printing Snowflake workshop we’re holding on Saturday, Nov. 25, from noon to 3 p.m. Attendees will learn the basics of sketching, scanning, and rendering a 3D image to print. Call the Library to sign up and create snowflake ornaments for your tree.

If old-school, hot-glue-gun and popsicle stick ornaments are more your thing, we’ll be doing that too! Head to the children’s room any time from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday the 25th and try your hand at some creative, Pinterest-inspired crafts. Better to use glitter here at the library than at your house, right? Make some to keep, and some to hang on the library tree for the Festival of Trees.

Finally, I’m so thankful for all of the library patrons that brighten my days and keep my to-read list full; the volunteers who are so kind, hard-working, and inspiring; and my lovely co-workers, who are the most dedicated, smart, and talented women I’ve ever worked with.

I hope you all have a great weekend of turkey, family, and bargain-hunting!
