Boothbay quarterback Duncan Drapeau made the most of his three passes Oct. 21 against Maranacook Community High School. Two were completed to wide receiver Nick Simpson for touchdowns in the Seahawks’ 28-6 victory over the Black Bears in Readfield. This was Boothbay’s lone game against a Campbell Conference foe.

Boothbay finished its first club season 5-1. Maranacook finished 0-10.

Boothbay scored first on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Drapeau to Simpson. A two-point conversion gave Boothbay an 8-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, Maranacook responded with a 43-yard touchdown run making the score 8-6.

This was Maranacook’s only score. Boothbay limited the Black Bear offense to 164 total yards: all rushing. Boothbay amassed 284 total yards. The Seahawks rushed for 258 yards on 46 carries. Halfback Draco Peaslee led the rushing attack with 108 yards on eight carries.

In the second quarter, a nine-yard touchdown run by Seahawk fullback Carter Babcock and a four-yard run by halfback Bryan Otero increased the lead to 22-6.

Boothbay’s final score came on a five-yard touchdown pass from Drapeau to Nick Simpson in the third quarter. Simpson had two catches for 20 yards.

For the Boothbay seniors, 2016 was a season to remember. It was the first in the school’s history as a club sport and it was also the first winning season for the graduating senior class. Babcock believes the decision to play this season as a club sport was the right one.

“It’s one of my favorites (seasons) of all sports I’ve played in high school,” he said. “I had one last season to play the sport I love with teammates I’ve played with since the second grade. And what made this season really special was the winning. It was great.”

The Maranacook game ends the career for Babcock and 10 other senior Seahawks. Boothbay Region Athletic Director Allan Crocker attempted to organize a playoff for the club season, but there was no interest from the other teams, according to football coach Bryan Dionne.
