An older, more experienced Mattanawcook Lynx field hockey team eliminated the young Boothbay Region High School Seahawks from post-season play Monday, Oct. 20 with a 4-1 tournament prelim victory at Lincoln. Lynx senior Courtney McIntyre scored all of Mattanawcook's goals.

Mattanawcook got on the board quickly with McIntyre's first goal coming five minutes into the first half on a Chetanne Libby assist. McIntyre scored her second goal with six minutes left in the first half.

Freshman Page Brown, on a Sydney Meader assist, scored Boothbay's only goal with five minutes remaining in the first half. The score at half-time was 2-1, Mattanawcook.

McIntyre scored her third goal five minutes into the second half and her fourth goal 11 minutes into the second half.

Mattanawcook goalie Lauren Page had six saves on Boothbay's 12 shots. Erica Eames had 12 saves on MA's 16 shots.

Boothbay finished the season at 6-7-2. Eighth-seeded Mattanawcook (9-6) moves on to face top-seeded Winslow (13-0-1) in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Maine Class C tournament.

"Boothbay has a very young team and did a great job facing a much older, experienced team," said Seahawk Coach Donna Jordan. "We are very excited to have had the opportunity to play in the Eastern Maine Class C prelim game. It was a great experience for us and we are aware of skills the we will need to develop as we work to return to the tournament next season."
