Boothbay edges Winthrop, 58-55

Eli Gudroe made two free throws with 18 seconds to play to give the host Boothbay Region Seahawk boys varsity basketball team a three-point lead and Boothbay hung on to win, 58-55, after Winthrop’s shot attempt to tie the game missed. Gudroe scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter to help Boothbay to its ninth win of the season.

The top scorer for the Seahawks was Hunter Crocker with 20 points, followed by Kyle Ames with 15 and Steve Reny with 12. The four players were the only players to score for Boothbay. The Seahawks are now 9-5 and in fifth place in Class C South.

The Ramblers, ranked fourth, are now 10-3. Winthrop was led by Cam Wood with 17 points, followed by Nate Leblanc with 11.

Boothbay will host Wiscasset (0-14) on Friday, Jan. 26.
