Dear Editor:

Thornton Wilder once said, “We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

I am very aware of the treasures we have in our region, and the peninsula that I grew up in. The countless prayers, outpouring of love and generosity of those in the area has been amazing. Since my accident August 7 here in Nebraska, I have been very aware of how fortunate I am to be alive; my heart is full of gratitude for all those who reached out in support and encouragement through letters, gifts, donations, kind words and thoughts.

As I continue on the road to recovery, I count all those who reached out and continue to, among the many blessings I have in my life. Saying thank you isn’t nearly enough.
