Blacksmith, quilter at Edgecomb Town Hall

Mon, 11/27/2017 - 2:30pm

On Thursday, Nov. 30, the Edgecomb Town Hall will host an event to raise funds for the Edgecomb Historical Society, and more specifically to help the organization’s endeavor to build a smithy, or blacksmith’s workshop, to house a collection of tools from an 1820s smithy.

A Fort Road resident donated the tools.

Master blacksmith Jeffrey Miller will give a talk at 7 p.m. Miller, a historian from Waldoboro, will discuss the life of a blacksmith throughout the changing seasons, and will show samples of items made by blacksmiths.

Miller, with 40 years of metal forging experience under his belt, has acted as head blacksmith at the Old Sturbridge Museum in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, and the Fort at No. 4 open air museum in Charlestown, New Hampshire.

Edgecomb quilter Deb Boucher will be holding a raffle for one of her quilts to help raise funds at the event. The 86-inch square quilt was made with Civil War reproduction fabrics.

An admission donation may be made at the door.
