No one was hurt but traffic was slowed briefly Thursday afternoon, August 7, when a bicycle and a compact sport utility vehicle collided on Main Street, Wiscasset police said.

Donald Aubin III, 25, of Edgecomb was riding a Kona bicycle northbound just as Linda Simon, 61, of Maryland was making a right turn into a parking space in a northbound, 2014 Honda CR-V, Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline said at the scene near Treats. Aubin and the bike’s handle bars hit the right rear side of the vehicle, causing significant damage to the vehicle, Cline said. He did not have a dollar estimate on the damage.

Cline said improper passing by Aubin led to the collision, at about 3:20 p.m. Thursday. There would be no charges, Cline said.

A Wiscasset ambulance and Cline, in the cruiser, arrived at the same time, causing a traffic bottleneck for about 10 minutes, Cline said. Aubin declined medical treatment, Cline said.

In an interview, Aubin said the bike was fine and he was fine, but that he would take the bike on the sidewalk from now on when traveling Main Street.

Aubin was not wearing a helmet, Cline said.

Neither Simon, nor a passenger in the vehicle, Allison Goodman, 18, of Maryland was hurt, the chief said.
