Story Location:

Cheryl Blaydon and Hilary Bartlett are the featured artists of the month of August at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, upstairs in the Community Room during normal library hours.

Both artists thrive on creativity in their studios as year round residents and they are long-term members of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

Blaydon, who attended art classes in Florida and workshops taught by James Sulkowski and the late Don Stone, exhibits at Boothbay Harbor Framers Gallery. She works in lush oils and her love of our coastal region is reflected in her majestic seascapes and Maine vistas, while her still-life compositions with luscious fruit make you salivate. You can check out more about her paintings - and novels - at www.cherylblaydon.com.

Bartlett prefers the fluid spontaneity of watercolors and acrylic inks. Her subjects range from representational floral images and landscapes to intuitive, free-form, fantasy works in which the composition is suggested by initial pours. Because of her scientific background, Bartlett loves to experiment and this can be seen in her use of salt, leaves and cheese cloth to create interesting textures. More paintings and prints can be viewed by appointment at her West Harbor Studio: 207-449-6847.

If artists are interested in exhibiting at the library, please contact our volunteer art coordinator, h.bartlett@myfairpoint.net.
