Maine poet Betsy Sholl will be filling in for (the now injured) Lee Sharkey at the Lincoln Arts Festival-sponsored Poetry Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 6. The workshop, at the Boothbay Region YMCA's Camp Knickerbocker, will start at 9:30 a.m. and finish around 4 p.m.

Regional poets will remember Sholl from a few years ago when she lead the group through lessons and readings, which all considered a good day’s work.

Sholl is the former Poet Laureate of Maine. She has taught at Stonecoast Summer Writers' Conference in Freeport and at the Frost Place in New Hampshire. She has been poet in residence at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts on Deer Isle. Sholl earned degrees from Bucknell, the University of Rochester and Vermont College.

Sholl is a founding member of Alice James Books, the poetry-publishing house located on the University of Maine at Farmington. She is the author of nine books, and is a two-time recipient of the Maine Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship Award, among others. Her latest book is “Otherwise Unseeable.”

The fee for the workshop is $60 and includes dessert, coffee and tea. Attendees must bring their own lunches.
