Dear Editor:

As a lifelong summer resident, I have read with interest the letters written on the subject of the proposed roundabout and, although I understand that change can be difficult, the many reasons for supporting the roundabout seem to me to be overwhelming. Primary among them is the enhanced safety which will result from this project. Not only does the single lane roundabout address vehicular traffic but the plan also provides for safe pedestrian crossings as well as sidewalks extending to the high school and the YMCA. Additional safety improvements have been included in the plan as a result of soliciting input from Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport emergency responders. The roundabout would provide many positive changes which would greatly benefit the Boothbay region as a whole.

With funding in place, I see this proposal as a unique opportunity. To pass up an opportunity which offers so many benefits, with no assurance that it would be available in the future, would in my view be a shame.
