Barters Island Road brush fire

Barters Island Road traffic was rerouted Wednesday morning, Sept. 30, due to a downed power line.

The Boothbay Fire Department directed traffic away from the power line near Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

The power line ignited after 10 a.m., and fell to the ground, which caused a minor brush fire.

The fire department rerouted traffic while Central Maine Power Co. repaired the power line.

According to Boothbay Fire Chief Richard Spofford, CMP arrived around noon and finished repairing the power line by 12:40 p.m.

“It didn’t take long to fix the burnt line. All they did was splice in a new wire,” Spofford said.
