Barbara Campbell Harvey of Portland, formerly of East Boothbay, was elected as secretary of the Maine Republican Party. The Maine Republican Party State Committee held its biennial election of officers on Feb. 14 in Augusta.

In addition to her vast experience with Republican political organizations across Maine, Harvey also has served in a variety of positions for well-known organizations such as the Maine Education Loan Authority Board, LearningWorks, First Radio Parish Church of America, and Friends of the Blaine House. Harvey received her master’s degree in political science at Northeastern and lives in Portland.

“Barbara Harvey’s political, private-sector and non-profit experience will provide great benefit to the Maine GOP,” said Chairman Rick Bennett. “We are fortunate to have someone with the depth and breadth of Barbara’s experience willing to serve. It bodes well for our party that we have people of Barbara’s talent willing to step up and keep our team moving in the right direction.”

Harvey, a former librarian at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library and Bowdoin College, replaces outgoing Secretary Charles Mahaleris, who chose not to seek reelection after serving for eight years.

Chairman Rick Bennett of Oxford was reelected with unanimous approval from the 68 state committee members in attendance. Dr. Demi Kouzounas of Saco won election for vice chairman, and Treasurer Ben Lombard of Yarmouth was elected to his second full two-year term with unanimous support from the state committee.
