Baker Newman Noyes promotes Merrill Barter to director

    Baker Newman Noyes (BNN), one of the nation’s top 125 accounting and consulting firms, announced this week that Boothbay Harbor native Merrill Barter has been promoted to director.

    “Merrill is one of our most experienced tax professionals with very unique skill sets. It is wonderful to recognize him as a leader in the firm, and help him continue to succeed as an outstanding client service professional,” said Michael Stillings, principal and director of tax services.

    Barter, CPA, leads the firm’s state and local tax (SALT) practice. He has more than 20 years of experience in the SALT area and specializes in assisting clients with state tax issues with a focus on multi-state compliance and planning, as well as sales and use tax matters. In addition to serving his clients, in his new role as director, Barter will focus on further developing the firm’s SALT practice.

    Barter earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with highest distinction, from Husson University and a master’s degree in taxation from Thomas College.
