Mid Coast Hospital

Auxiliary gearing up for another ‘Grand and Glorious’ yard sale

Wed, 04/22/2015 - 11:15am

The annual “Grand and Glorious” yard sale sponsored by Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary will be held May 8, 9 and 10 at the old Borders bookstore, Merrymeeting Plaza, Brunswick.

It promises to be another outstanding show of support from the Midcoast community on Mother’s Day Weekend. Every item is donated to the sale, ranging from kitchenware to antiques.

There is still time to donate, as donations for the sale are accepted until May 2, 9 a.m. to noon, at the front door. Volunteers help unload vehicles and give receipts for tax purposes. Residents with furniture they cannot move may call 207-751-0357 for pick-up.

Opening the sale is the Preview Party May 8 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., a joyous occasion because patrons find it hard to believe that they are actually attending a yard sale. Advance tickets are $20 each until May 6, 5 p.m., at the Mid Coast Hospital Gift Shop (may be charged to a credit card here), drop-off times at Borders, Now You’re Cooking in Bath and Gulf of Maine bookstore in downtown Brunswick. Tickets will be on sale at the door at $25 per person starting at 6:15 p.m. The ticket price include the opportunity to purchase items, eat hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants and enjoy beverages. For all the moms who like bargains, a ticket to the preview party is a fun Mother’s Day gift. The sale is free on Saturday, May 9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Donations are sorted into 11 different “departments,” each with a team of volunteers who are polishing, washing, ironing, arranging and rearranging the goods to make the best presentation for sales.

The auxiliary is fundraising for its new $200,000 pledge to the hospital, $100,000 going for art work and furnishings for the new Mid Coast Medical Group offices in downtown Bath, and $100,00 toward the new MRI at the hospital, slated to be installed in early fall. The auxiliary also awards $40,000 in health career scholarships annually, with the selection of new winners announced later this spring. In addition to the yard sale, other fundraisers include the gift shop, bake sales, book signing and sales, holiday and wreath sales.

To reach Merrymeeting Plaza (Shaw’s Supermarket also there), take the Cook’s Corner exit off Route 1 (north or south) in Brunswick and turn right at the light. There is plenty of free parking and bring trucks and totes. For more information, please call the Volunteer Office, 207-373-6015.
