Tue, 06/21/2016 - 10:30am

Author Tommy Shea will be at Southport Memorial Library on Wednesday, July 6 at 9:30 a.m. to give a presentation on his new book “Dingers: the 101 Most Memorable Home Runs in Baseball History,” which takes a panoramic look at baseball, told through vignettes of the legendary games and the moments within them that changed the record books and made baseball history.

“Dingers” highlights the epoch-making homers of Bobby Thompson and Henry Aaron, Bill Mazeroski and Joe Carter, and many others — the most thrilling moments of America's most beloved sport. The talk will be followed by a question and answer period and a book signing.

Shea is both a lifelong baseball fan and a seasoned journalist with over 40 years experience as a reporter and columnist for the Springfield (Massachusetts) Newspapers, including six years covering the Boston Red Sox. His work has appeared in Baseball America, New England Monthly and USA Today. In 2003 Shea received the New England Associated Press News Executive Award for best local New England column. He has taught journalism and other aspects of media and communications at Springfield, Elms and Holyoke Community Colleges, and at Bay Path University. Shea is a member of the faculty at Bay Path's new MFA program in nonfiction and is at work on several book projects.
