Author of Lighthouse book series returns to Boothbay Harbor

Tue, 06/13/2017 - 3:30pm

Terry Webb, a former Southport Island resident and author of “Manning the Light,” “Weathering the Storms,” “Mystery and Mishap,” and “Leaving the Lighthouse,” will be autographing her books on Friday, June 23 between 1 and 4 p.m. at Sherman’s Books in Boothbay Harbor. The author conducted research for the Louie books, written for boys and girls ages 9-12, at the Boothbay Region Historical Society and with the Burnt Island Lighthouse curator.

Dr. Webb combined her background as educator and counselor to create three 13-year-old fictional boy characters who live in 1903–04, the historical period of the industrial revolution when inventions such as electric lights, the telephone, automobiles and the Marconi Wireless were beginning to change history. She captures the triumphs and tragedies of the lives of fishermen and their families, lighthouse keepers, Maine islanders and the communities that support them. The mission ship, The Rainbow, her captain, Captain Bowline, and the mission’s minister, Reverend Sam Hornblower, will be of particular interest to the supporters of the Maine Seacoast Mission, as well as anyone who has attended services at All Saints By-The-Sea where Dr. Webb’s father was a former summer pastor for many years.
