Audrey V. Krah

Audrey Verney Krah, 93, of Waldoboro, died peacefully Jan. 5, 2016 at home.

She was born July 1, 1922 in Litchfield, the daughter of John Verney and Selena Gilby

Audrey moved to Sheepscot while young and graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1940. After high school she moved to Connecticut to work for Fafnir Bearing Company and worked during World War II. She married Kenneth Krah in 1942 on family property in Alna. They moved back to Maine in 1946 after starting a family. She then worked as a stay at home mom before working at Medomak Canning Company and then the U.S. Post Office until she retired in 1984.

Audrey enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, traveling, horseback riding and spending time with her family and friends. She knitted up to 100 pairs of mittens in 2008 for students at Miller School. She was a 75-year member of the Garrison Hill Grange in Sheepscot and she also volunteered for Kno-Wal-Lin after retirement. She was a Life Member of The Ladies Auxiliary to Soule Shuman Memorial VFW Post 4525. She worked alongside her daughter in the kitchen during the weekly Bingo games.

Audrey was predeceased by: her parents; husband, Kenneth Krah; brothers, Victor Verney and Clayton Verney; sisters, Evangeline Jordan and Carol Shorey; and great-grandson Jacob B. Williams.  

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Blamey and husband John of Waldoboro; her daughter, Chalmer Leonard and husband, E. Michael of Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Madeline Pierce of Damariscotta; brother, Richard Verney of Alna; grandchildren, Courtney Williams and husband Mark of Sherborne, Massachusetts, John Leonard and wife Monique of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Michael P. Leonard and wife Bethany of Jacksonville, Florida; five great-grandchildren; special nephew, Jeffrey Krah of Nashua, New Hampshire; special cousin, Janice Cook of New Hampshire; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. at Hall’s Funeral Home in Waldoboro. A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at Hall’s Funeral Home in Waldoboro.
