ARTinMe People’s Choice Award 2016

The Boothbay Region Art Foundation was pleased to announce Alice de Mauriac of New Harbor as the People's Choice for her painting “Expectations” from the ARTinME show held in October at the gallery.

Sally Giddings Smith, BRAF board member, made the announcement at BRAF's Harbor Lights open house Dec. 3 during the gallery’s annual Art in the Square show. In presenting the award, Smith thanked the Knickerbocker Group for funding the $500 prize.

de Mauriac thanked those who voted for her painting and talked about her current creative exploration.

“Having recently moved to Pemaquid Point, I am currently exploring the language of landscape painting,” said de Mauriac. “It is fascinating to me how my longtime focus on abstract art translates to this arena. In abstract painting, I create a unique universe and, curiously, the invention of a personal landscape language is a very similar experience.”

“Expectations” is a moody landscape conveyed through the use of dark acrylics, and the scene itself - dark, and one imagines, deep water surrounded by rock formations. The rocks in the forefront could be three individuals, huddled under a blanket gazing out toward the light on the horizon. Expectations indeed.

The artist shows locally at BRAF and at River Arts in Damariscotta. Contact Alice de Mauriac at Abstractreal@yahoo.com. To see more of the artist’s abstracts, visit www.therefrigerator.net/art/artists/demauriac/02alicedemauriacpainting.html.
