Boothbay Region Art Foundation is asking people of all ages with an urge to create to use a 12” by 12” canvas for its annual Art in the Square show and sale. All works sell for $100 each!

Canvases are available at the gallery at One Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. Options include painting, drawing, weaving, printmaking, collage, or whatever works upon 144 square inches of empty, white canvas. Up to four pieces can be submitted.

The purpose of this event is to raise money for BRAF’s Scholarship Fund and provide sponsorship of the Annual K-12 Student Art Show in May.

Art in the Square also benefits the local economy - artist/participants receive 75 percent of each $100 dollar canvas sold. Customers also appreciate the chance to purchase original artwork just in time for Holiday gift-giving.

Finished squares need to be submitted by Nov. 21 from  10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. The exhibit will be installed Tuesday afternoon in readiness for Black Friday, Nov. 25, when the exhibit opens at 11 a.m.

BRAF will be taking part in the new “Festival of Lights” downtown celebration along with many local merchants staying open during Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ spectacular “Gardens Aglow” attraction. In light of this, we are asking artists submit one square with the subject being “Starry Night, You’re Own Back Yard,” or “Starry Night from a Maine Point of View.”

The“Art in the Square” reception will be held at BRAF’s holiday open house from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, the day of the Harbor Lights Festival.
