Approve the roundabout

Dear Editor:

I have been a summer visitor to East Boothbay for 26 years. Although I cannot vote on the roundabout, I have an opinion.

A couple of weeks ago I was driving back to Boothbay from Pinkham’s Seafood with a bag of cooked lobsters. As I rounded the curb at the Common, a car leaving Boothbay and apparently heading for the road to the Botanical Gardens suddenly cut in front of me. A head-on collision was barely avoided. There was no signal from the oncoming car and nothing on the road that alerted me to the cut off. My niece and I looked at each other and gasped on how close we came to colliding with that car. So much for the arguments about changing the character of Boothbay or frustrating the plans of Paul Coulombe.

Do we need to wait for people to die before we address the dangers of the existing traffic configuration? The citizens of Boothbay should approve the roundabout.
