Dear Editor:

Thank you to Joe Gelarden for his column in the Sept. 17 edition of the Boothbay Register telling the story of Barters Island summer resident Paul Bokros, a "displaced person" from Nazi terror.

In doing so, Joe puts a local face to the news of current refugees fleeing bombs and destruction, seeking safety, freedom and opportunity. Germany, who in my lifetime has shown the world the worst mankind can do, is now showing the world the best mankind can do. They have learned form their history. I hope we can too.
