American Legion Post #36: Lots of assistance options

Tue, 11/25/2014 - 6:00am

The American Legion Post #36 had another of its popular public breakfasts Sunday. We thank all patrons who attended. We will be having another on Dec. 7, this time featuring chip beef. See Goings On in the paper or check out our Facebook page.

There are many veterans in our area who should be aware of the assistance that can be provided by our Post to make their life a little easier. An individual working through the bureaucracy alone can sometimes be frustrated and tend to give up.

We have trained individuals that can help with questions about VA benefits, healthcare, and non-government programs for veterans.

For help, please phone 207-633-4487 or email shermanhall36@gmail.com. Find us on Facebook and like our page to keep up to date on benefits and events for veterans and the general public in the Boothbay area.

And help us out by forwarding this information to your friends list and tell anyone you know who is a veteran in the area.

Post 36 asks that anyone who has a military address of a local person who is serving currently in the service of United States, to please contact the Post. We would like to enroll them as members of Post 36, gratis. Contact information is above.

Sherman Hall function room at the Legion Post 36 is available for rental, weddings, holiday parties, business meetings, etc. Full kitchen, air conditioned, ample parking, and Wi-Fi included. Large seating capacity. Rental charge has been reduced. Call 207-633-4487 for more information.

I have learned from our Service Officer that everyone enrolled in the Veterans Heathcare System should be receiving a new booklet titled "Veterans Health Benefits Handbook." It provides details of services, benefits, how and where to ask questions, and much useful other information. Notice that on page one, it is specifically tailored for one veteran who is named personally.

Two toll-free phone numbers to add, inside the front cover are Togus, 1-877-421-8263 and Jamaica Plain/W. Roxbury, 1-800-865-3384. These numbers allow you to connect with the clinics.

The Togus wish list for the holiday season, of available volunteer assignments, is posted at the hall. Also call 207-621-4886, or see the Nov. 13 issue of SMILE online.

Happy Thanksgiving! Post 36 is thankful to all who keep the Post running efficiently, to all who help with our breakfasts, the Boothbay Register for publishing Legion information, to all active military, to all vets, especially those helping other vets.
