Alta B. Greenleaf

Alta B. Greenleaf, 94, of Trevett, died May 5, 2015 at St. Andrews Village, Boothbay Harbor, after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 13, 1921 in Boothbay, the daughter of Cleveland C. and Elizabeth Orchard Barter. She attended local schools, graduating in the class of 1939.

Alta spent two years working at Jordan Marsh in Boston during World War II while her husband Carroll served the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. For many years she worked as a part-time bookkeeper at Leavitt’s Garage and waitressed at local restaurants during the summer.

Alta loved the Barters Island community. She was a life-long member of the Barters Island Baptist Church, where she played the organ for many years. She was a member of the local singing group, The Choralaires and was a member of Crescent Chapter #54 Order of the Eastern Stars for over 50 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Carroll M. Greenleaf, and her son, David.

Survivors include her son, Peter W. Greenleaf and wife Krista; five grandchildren, Valerie Leavitt, Chris, Marshall, Dustin and Nicholas Greenleaf; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 8 at the Evergreen Cemetery, Barters Island Road, Boothbay, with Al Roberts officiating. Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements.
