Adult and pediatric CPR/AED course May 5 and 7

Would you know what to do if a friend, loved one or colleague was struggling to breathe? Learning CPR, AED and first aid can save lives.

This Boothbay Region Adult Education course is taught by a certified instructor and shows participants how to perform CPR (chest compressions and rescue breaths). Learn to recognize the signs of and how to care for breathing emergencies and choking. What defibrillation is and how it works, and identify the precautions to take when using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for all age groups — adult, children and infants. The first aid component includes the signals of common sudden illnesses and how to care for them, caring for seizures, heat and cold related injuries, musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries, control of external bleeding as well as how to care for head, neck and spinal injuries.

A two-year certificate will be awarded upon successful completion. The course is taught by Andrew Eckman, owner of Community Life Safety, who has 35 years of experience in emergency services, and is a certified instructor for FEMA/NIMA Incident Command System.

The dates are May 5 and 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Boothbay Region High School, and the fee is $68.
