Adhere to noise ordinance

Wed, 09/03/2014 - 3:30pm

    Dear Editor:

It was ironic that many people at Monday night’s Boothbay Harbor selectmen’s meeting apparently failed to hear why Rocktide’s summer-long alleged abuse of the town’s noise ordinance was being discussed, instead choosing to interpret it as some sort of attack against music in general. It was not.

After an hour-long discussion, which only occasionally dealt with the intended topic, I still believe Rocktide has shown little regard for the law or its neighbors all summer, and probably will continue to do so as long as the town of Boothbay Harbor is unwilling or unable to enforce its own laws.

At the very least, I would hope that prior to just rubber-stamping Rocktide’s entertainment license next spring, there are conditions imposed on Rocktide making them more responsible in adhering to the town’s standards like every other business in town already does. That way, Rocktide’s neighbors hopefully won’t have to go through this fiasco all over again next summer.
