Adams leaves Boothbay appeals board

Prior to the Boothbay Appeals Board May 21 meeting, Chairman Dick Perkins announced Scott Adams had resigned. Perkins read a prepared statement on Adams’s nearly two decades of service.

“Regretfully, after many many years of dedicated and selfless service as a member of the  Board of Appeals and to the Town of Boothbay, Scott Adams has submitted his resignation.  It is very hard to lose any member of a voluntary civic board and is particularly difficult to lose someone with Scott's level of dedication, credentials and willingness to serve. He always came to the meetings eager to help, prepared and always did his research.

“I can understand his frustration and reasons for leaving and very much appreciate all the time and effort he put into being a member for all those years. It is a big loss for the Board and the Town," Perkins said.

Adams’s replacement is Martin Page, the most senior alternate board member.

Adams wasn’t the only board member absent during an appeals hearing on a notice of violation against Gene and Judith Molinelli for allegedly removing vegetative growth from a neighbor’s property. Board member Steve Malcom recused himself from the proceedings due to his  company currently  engaged in the construction of Peter and Kathryn Wagner's house. The Wagners are the Molinellis’ neighbor and a party in the appeal.

Alternate David Steinmetz took Malcom’s place in the three-hour hearing. The board voted 5-0 to uphold eight of 11 violations cited by  Code Enforcement Officer Jason Lorrain in November 2017. Lorrain issued the notice of violation to the Molinellis and Wagners for exceeding allowable maintenance in the shoreland zone.

On May 9, the Wagners entered into a consent decree with Boothbay and submitted a replanting plan to commence by June 15.
