The Edgecomb Congregational Church will be hosting an afternoon of "Holiday Music From Around the World" played by the Maine Squeeze Accordion Ensemble on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m.

The special performance will feature such holiday and Christmas favorites as the "Carol of the Bells," a Ukrainian carol; "Lulaj ze Jesunui — Lullaby for Sweet Jesus," a Polish carol; "Still, Still, Still," an Austrian carol; "Mele Kalikimaka," a Hawaiian themed Christmas song; and "Ocho Kandelikas — Eight Little Candles," a Jewish song celebrating the holiday of Hanukkah.

The concert of lively holiday music will begin at 3 in the Sanctuary of Edgecomb Congregational Church located at 15 Cross Point Road, Edgecomb.

All are welcome! Come join us for a wonderful afternoon of lively, foot tapping accordion music as we celebrate the Spirit of the season. Refreshments will be served. The following musicians will be singing and playing accordions during this special performance.

Janine Blatt made her accordion debut in 1996 with Squeeze, Please! a homegrown Peaks Island group, and has been playing ever since. Her day job with the Department of Education takes her to schools throughout Maine where she brings accordion music, songs and dance to preschool children.

Alina Blakesley was born in England to Polish immigrants. She honors her roots through Polish folk songs and dances. Her motto is: "Look to your roots and find a jewel shining bright in your being." She loves ballroom dancing and competes each year at the Eastersport Dance Championships in Boston.

Peter Blackstone, an elementary school teacher in Portland, first studied the accordion in 4th grade. He has played in a Zydeco band, and an African band. He also plays steel drum with the Blueberry Pancakes. He likes to compose songs on accordion and guitar and in his spare time is an avid gardener.

Sally Trice started playing accordion as a child. She was drawn to the instrument then and still finds it fun to play. She also teaches accordion and is working with students of all ages. She also teaches sight singing. She has been playing with the Maine Squeeze for 12 years.

Barbara Truex lives in Windham and splits her time between playing, composing, teaching, theatrical sound design, and community radio on WMPG in Portland. Her primary instruments are mountain dulcimer (acoustic and electric), ukuleles and guitar, but her second love is tapping away for accordions! She plays with Nouveau Chapeau. She composes periodically for the award-winning FinalRune Productions.

Guest performer Ronda Dale is a Portland-based singer/songwriter, jazz vocalist and bass player. Originally from central Virginia in the piedmont of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, she has lived in the Northern Virginia/Washington, D.C. area, Spain, New York City, on a sailboat on Peaks Island for 14 years and now Portland.
