2016 Festival of Trees: Another successful community event

Mon, 12/12/2016 - 8:45am

As president of the Boothbay Region Garden Club, I would like to express our gratitude to all who contributed to the great success of the 2016 Festival of Trees. We were fortunate to have former Club President Kathleen Marty as our extremely well organized and spirited Festival Chair.

It was a pleasure to work with Cathy Sherrill and Kevin Kiley at the Opera House. We thank the Coast Guard volunteers for helping with the set up and our own elite “Corps of Helpful Gentleman Volunteers” for their part in assembling and taking down the Festival. We also greatly appreciate the extensive coverage by the Register.

Once again, the Garden Club was able to deliver over 40 decorated Christmas trees to deserving families thanks to many individuals who donated trees and hand-made ornaments crafted by the following: Boothbay Region Elementary School students and staff, Edgecomb Elementary School students, Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library After School students, Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dolphin Mini Golf and BRGC member Annette Stormont.

Proceeds from our BRGC Festival will allow the Garden Club to continue sponsoring many important community programs, including youth projects, Y camperships, college scholarships, garden therapy at St. Andrews and those beautiful window boxes and holiday wreaths on area public buildings.

The generous donations from the following individuals, local businesses and civic organizations contributed significantly to the success of our Festival of Trees.
