In “A Short Walk to the Edge of Life: How my simple adventure became a dance with death – and taught me what really  matters” Scott Hubbartt has written an extremely open account of the results of his over-confidence and poor judgment. He includes not only his physical trials that threaten his life, but the spiritual reawakening that sustains his courage and faith in every step.

Hubbartt starts his very personal story by acknowledging his conceit in his own abilities. Getting lost on a treacherous trail in the backcountry of the treacherous Peruvian Andes and fighting to survive  bitter cold while he struggles with lack of food, water and sleep brings him to the humblest place of human psyche and allows true growth of spirit to begin.  He continues to take the reader day-by-day through each peril he faced and each revelation he acquires. To read this book is to share his journey. This is definitely a journey worth taking
